Problems with call and text messages on your Samsung smart watch

If your Samsung smart watch (LTE) experiences mobile data issues, cannot answer calls, receive texts, or does not display your phone number in the Settings menu, there are a few things you can try. If those options do not work, it may be necessary to contact your carrier for network options or activation support.

  1. Troubleshoot calls or text messages on your Samsung smart watch:

Note: Available settings and menu options may vary by the device, wireless service provider, and software version.

  1. Check your watch band:

If you are using a metal watch band with a Galaxy Watch4, it may cause interference with the antennas, and calls may be intermittently disconnected.

  1. For a Bluetooth watch, connect to a phone:

To use the call or text features with Bluetooth, the watch must be connected to a phone through Bluetooth and through the Galaxy Wearable app. If the watch is connected remotely via Wi-Fi, you will not receive incoming calls.

  1. Verify if silent modes are disabled:

Do not Disturb mode, Goodnight mode, and Theater mode are silent modes that minimize distractions by silencing your watch. Depending on the mode, alarms and alerts may be silent and the touchscreen may not turn on during incoming calls.

You can press any key on the watch, rotate the bezel, or raise your wrist to turn on the screen and check for incoming calls.

  1. Check the Notification settings for your watch:

You will not be notified if the notifications for Incoming call, Missed call, and Messages are turned off.  To check this, open the Galaxy Wearable app on the connected phone, then tap Watch settings, and then tap Notifications. Tap See all notification settings or More, and then verify the switch next to the features are turned on. Tap the Back icon, and manage as the additional Notification settings as desired.

  1. Contact your wireless service provider:

  • To verify if call barring (blocking) or call forwarding is set on your phone and watch. It should not be turned on.

  • If your phone has been repaired and is no longer active. (Please provide the phone's IMEI and serial number.)

  • To verify your account and device are eligible for wireless service and are active on your provider's network. If your device was not intended for use in your current region, it may not be eligible for activation.

  • To check your wireless network coverage area. Roaming issues may occur.

  • To verify your data usage or see if any data limits are set.

  • To verify the correct mobile network (APN) settings for the watch.

Update software and apps on your Samsung smart watch

Graphical user interface

Description automatically generated

Your Samsung smart watch isn’t all cogs and gears - it’s wires, processors, data chips, and software! And just like with any other smart device, the watch's software and apps will need to be updated every so often. Luckily, you can update both whether or not you have a phone!

Note: Available screens and settings may vary by phone, watch, and software version.

When your phone and watch are connected, you can use the Galaxy Wearable app to regularly check for updates. Or, if you initially set up your watch without a phone, you can apply updates from the watch itself.

  1. Update the software on your watch:

Screen is dark or dim on Samsung smart watch

There are several reasons why the Samsung smart watch display cannot be adjusted and the screen appears darkened or gray. Both issues can be caused by an accessibility setting, Outdoor mode, physical damage to the watch, a third-party app, or outdated software.

If Power saving mode is on, your smart watch will have "Power saving: ON" at the bottom of the screen.

  1. Tap OFF at the bottom of the screen to turn off Power saving mode:

To turn off Power saving mode, tap OFF at the bottom of the screen, and then tap the check mark to confirm.

Wireless charging of the Galaxy Devices

Imagine a world with no wires - that dream is now a reality with Samsung wireless chargers! With these chargers, you can charge your phone simply by placing it on the charger (sold separately). Samsung offers different kinds of wireless chargers based on your needs; for example, the Wireless Charger Trio allows you to charge up to three Galaxy devices simultaneously, such as smart watches or earbuds. In most cases, you won't need to remove the phone's case or cover, and you can still use your phone while it's charging.

Note: Available screens and settings may vary by wireless service provider, software version, and phone model.

  1. Charge your phone or device wirelessly:

Note: Fast wireless charging is automatically activated when you use a fast wireless charger. The indicator light on the front of the charging duo, stand, or pad may work differently depending on the device or wireless charging cover being used.

With no wires to get in your way, charging becomes a cinch with a wireless charger.

  1. First, plug the wireless charger's power adapter into a power outlet and the USB cable into the wireless charger. The indicator light on the base will flash when you first connect the cable.

  1. When you're ready, place your phone or compatible device (like a smart watch or earbuds) on the wireless charger.

  1. In order for it to charge properly, the device's back should make contact with the wireless charger, and the device should be centered. Foldable phones should be closed and also have their back facing the charging pad.

  1. If needed, remove your phone's case, especially if the case is thick.

Compatible Galaxy devices

  • Galaxy Note phones: Galaxy Note20 5G, Note20 Ultra 5G, Note10+, Note10, Note9, Note8, and Note 5

  • Galaxy S phones: S21 series, S20 series, S10 series, S9 series, S8 series, S7 series, and S6 series

  • Foldable phones: Galaxy Z Fold, Z Fold2, Z Fold3, Z Flip, Z Flip 5G, and Z Flip3

  • Samsung earbuds: Galaxy Buds Pro, Galaxy Buds Live, Galaxy Buds+, Galaxy Buds2, and Galaxy Buds

  • Samsung smart watches: Galaxy Watch4, Galaxy Watch4 Classic, Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch3, Galaxy Watch Active, and Galaxy Watch Active2

Note: Galaxy A series devices are not compatible with wireless charging.

  1. Indicator light colors:

You see a red light on your wireless charger, but what does it mean? We have a breakdown of the different indicator lights and what they signify right here:

  • Red: Charging

  • Green: Fully charged

  • Flashing Red: Not charging properly due to the phone's position on the charger

  • Off: When the phone is removed from the wireless charger or when the wireless charger is not connected to a power outlet

Important: If the indicator light does not work as described, disconnect the cable from the wireless charger and reconnect it. The indicator light may work differently depending on the phone or the wireless charging cover. For example, some models of wireless charger may use different indicator light colors.

  1. Prevent issues with wireless charging:

If your wireless charger doesn't seem to be working, there's usually a quick fix, such as removing a thick phone case. Check out the following solutions to help your charger work better:

  • When the device is placed incorrectly on the charging surface, it may not charge properly. Make sure your device is placed in the center of the charging pad with no obstructions. The device's back should come in contact with the charger.

  • Wireless charging may not work properly if you have a thick case on your phone. If needed, remove it before placing your phone on the wireless charger.

  • When a headset is connected to your phone, place the phone in a landscape position on the wireless charger. If you place the phone in a portrait position, it may not charge.

  • If you use the wireless charger in areas with weak network signals, you may lose network reception.

  • If a different charger or USB cable is connected to your phone, the wireless charging feature may be unavailable.

  • Make sure the wireless charger is plugged in to a working power outlet or power source.
